Maruti has decided to make India its global research and development hub for its small car development program. The company is in the process of setting up its new R&D center in Rohtak to develop a completely ‘Made in India’ car by 2012. It has already been allotted 700 acres of land of which 600 acres will be used to develop the R&D center and other 100 acres will be allotted to vendors for setting up their ancillary units.

The new “Made in India” car is expected to be developed based on an existing platform,, though there remains a chance of plans to develop a completely new car from scratch. Maruti Suzuki India Limited had announced to launch a completely made in India car by 2012. It has reaffirmed its statement to launch this car in next three years.

Maruti is already in the process of hiring the best brains from all over the world for its new R&D center. Eight engineers from World’s Auto Capital Detroit will be inducted who will help the company in developing its new car.
