Rumors are doing rounds on the internet that General Motors is gearing up to reveal its India-bound mini car at Delhi Auto Expo 2010. The new mini car will be launched as Spark in the overseas market and will be built on the new M300 platform. It will co-exist with Spark in India which is currently built on M200 platform.

General Motors has reiterated that its Indian plans are on track but it may miss its target of achieving 10 percent market share by 2010. However, it remains optimistic of achieving a 10 percent growth rate in sales this year as compared to its figures posted in last year. “The economic downturn has forced us to go for a change of plans. Instead of 2010 as the timeline for securing 10 per cent share in the Indian car market, we are now re-scheduling the target till 2011," General Motors India President and Managing Director Karl Slym said.

Launch of new models in India including its mini car is yet another step from General Motors to keep up healthy sales figures. It recently launched LPG Spark variant and has sold 600 units already. GM India is also planning to launch Cruze this year in India.

Almost all manufacturers are launching small, low priced cars. This can mean a significant change in India's vehicle landscape, as cars become more affordable. What do you think this will mean for the daily life in India?
