India’s largest passenger car manufacturer, Maruti is expecting to touch milestone figure of 17.5 lakh unit production in coming two years as per a recent statement given by the company official.

Managing executive officer (production) of Maruti Suzuki, M M Singh discussed company’s future production plans at a CII logistics seminar. He said, "Once the third plant (Plant C) is operational in two years, the total production capacity will be 17.5 lakh units."

The current strength of Plant A at Manesar along with three other plants in Gurgoan amounts to be 13 lakh units per annum, he added.

While elaborating on plans for the second plant, Mr. Singh said that it will be operational in four or maximum five months as work is going on in full swing. The second plant would raise the annual capacity of the company to 15.5 lakh units per annum. The Plant B is built with a whopping investment of Rs 1700 crore.

It should be noted that Maruti’s K series engine had recently touched 10 lakh mark in just over 2 years. Also, with new Swift’s launch nearing, Maruti’s decision to invest in increasing production is a wise one.
