Maruti Suzuki India Limited is planning to hike prices of its popular models in next two weeks. MSIL reasoned that the commodity prices have gone up considerably in past few months and the company has been absorbing the costs so far. Now it intends to pass on some of the cost bearing to its customers as well.

"On the back of rising commodity prices such as steel and copper we are actively considering price increases across all our models in a couple of weeks," Commercial Business Head S N Burman said.

Maruti had earlier increased its prices about a year ago when its models had gone expensive by at least 2 percent. However, Maruti has not officially revealed the current price increase or the extent of it.

Maruti has recently unveiled its brand new model Maruti Eeco at the Delhi Auto Expo priced at Rs. 2.59 lakh which will replace Versa in the Indian market. MSIL has already stopped manufacturing Versa owing to the falling sales and non-availability of the demand for the model.
