India’s leading car manufacturer and exporter, Maruti Suzuki, is set to design its own car in India from scratch. According to the industry sources, the company is all set to start designing its own car from 2010. It plans to hire 1000 engineers by 2010 from various engineering disciplines like design, electrical and mechanical engineering.
According to the company sources, if the car design plans work out fruitfully, Maruti will launch a complete indigenous car designed and manufactured by Indian talent. Suzuki aims to earmark its Indian operations as global design centre. This project will prepare Maruti Suzuki for a complete model change and it will be able to launch a completely Indian car by 2010-11.
Maruti Suzuki has already made India its manufacturing and exports global hub for its small cars. Currently, Indian designers collaborate with those in Japan for all the car designs from Maruti Suzuki. The company shall launch its new model, A-Star in India. It has recently launched this model as Suzuki Alto at the Paris Auto Show last week.
