India Design Council, an industry body affiliated with the country’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has awarded the Maruti Swift and Wagon R - with the India Design Mark (I-Mark) for 2012. It is the first edition of the India Design Mark and the Maruti Swift and Wagon R are the first ever cars that have received this award. The Indian design council has been set-up with taking on board the eminent people in design and industry organizations.
Organized in association with Japan Institute of Design Promotion (that organizes Japan’s Good Design Award G Mark), the preparations for I-Mark award had commenced about two years back.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. IV Rao, Maruti Suzuki’s Chief Operating Officer (Engineering), said,“The India Design Mark certificate to Wagon R and Swift demonstrates high design capabilities of the design teams of Maruti Suzuki India and Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan. Stepping up our efforts, Maruti Suzuki designers are now working on designing global models along with their Japanese counterparts, as part of SMC’s global design team.”
