The country’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has said that it is yet to finalise the land requirement for its upcoming manufacturing facility in the state of Gujarat. Earlier, the company top brass had met with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi finalise the deal to set-up new manufacturing plant in the state. The proposed Gujarat plant of the company has been planned-up majorly to cater the exports o the car maker from Mundra port.
Speaking to the reporters recently, Managing Executive Officer (Engineering) of Maruti Suzuki I V Rao said, "We do have plans to go to Gujarat and preliminary talks have been already held with the state government. But nothing has been decided on when and how much land will be acquired there." He added, "The matter has not been placed before the board for approval yet."
According to the company, the plan of establishing a new plant in Gujarat was initiated at a time when industry was growing at a very good rate of 18 percent. But now, as the demand for cars in the Indian market has been going through a steep slowdown, the company has been holding its plans to start construction of the new plant in Gujarat.
