Maruti Suzuki will be unveiling the new Ignis at the 2016 Auto Expo. This is the company’s new compact crossover that will compete with the Mahindra KUV100. The Ignis is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and even a new 1.2-litre or the 1.3-litre diesel engine from Suzuki might be on offer. The Ignis will be manufactured in Maruti’s Manesar plant and will be exported to Europe from India.
The Ignis shares the platform with the Baleno and it was first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show as iM-4 and then the production version made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show. This will be the second product from Suzuki that will be launched first in India and then exported to other markets.
The Maruti Ignis will be priced at Rs 4-6 lakh (ex-showroom) and will not be sold through Nexa dealerships. It will measure as long as the Grand i10 and will initially be launched with a manual transmission. The diesel engine on the Ignis maybe a newly developed Suzuki three-cylinder engine or the current Fiat’s 1.3-litre multijet unit. The Suzuki brand is looking at adding more UVs to its portfolio and this will be one of them. This will be the smallest crossover that Maruti will be offering.
