For a while now reports have been doing rounds that Mahindra had been planning to introduce smaller diesel engine in XUV500 and Scorpio models. As per fresh inputs from sources, the company is planning on introducing a 1.9-litre diesel engine that would be a downsized version of the 2.2-litre mHawk. The move is expected to help the Indian automaker clear the ban on registration of cars with engines larger than 2,000cc.

The Mahindra's Scorpio would be the first model to be offered with the new engine and reportedly the prototype has already been approved by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). Though the engine sizes vary in this manner, the power and torque figures have not been affected to a great extent. The company's engineers have reportedly worked on their best to deliver uncompromising performance.
