The country’s leading utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to enhance the production of its much in demand sports utility vehicle (SUV) - XUV 500 – from March 2012, as per a statement given by a senior executive of the firm on Thursday. At present, the waiting period for the XUV 500 model is three to five months.
Speaking to the reporters on the company’s plans in Chennai, Mahinda & Mahindra’s Senior Vice-President (Marketing - Automotive division) Vivek Nayer said, "We will be ramping up of production to 3,000 units per month."
The decision of enhancing the production of XUV 500 has been taken in the backdrop of staggering response received by the SUV during the second phase of bookings. In the 10 days of opening of the second phase booking from 25th January to 3rd February, the company has received about 25,000 bookings for the XUV 500 model, much higher as compared to the 8,000 units booked during the first phase of bookings.
Meanwhile, the company has launched the new generation 2012 Mahindra Xylo in the Indian market, which is a face-lifted version of the car. The new Mahindra Xylo facelift is blessed with as many as 50 new features and carry a refined engine.
