      Mahindra Thar to get mild makeover this year

      Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown automaker will launch two all-new SUVs- the S101/S102 micro SUV and U301 Bolero this year. Adding to it, the leading utility vehicle maker is also preparing to introduce the Scorpio Automatic and XUV 500 facelift. Interestingly, the company is also planning to give a mild makeover to its off-roading capable SUV- the Thar. The Thar is a great car for off-road enthusiasts, but it's often criticized for its outdated interiors. Now, the homegrown maker is aiming to give the off-roader an improved interior to offers comfortable driving experience to the driver.

      The current model features the old looking dashboard, which is sourced from Bolero SUV. The updated Thar is expected to get an all-new dashboard and centre console, which will further enhance the overall appeal of this off-roader. It is likely to feature a soft touch dashboard, more efficient air conditioning system and controls, and an improved incar entertainment system. The new centre console will feature the gearshift level, the four-wheel drive lever and the handbrake. Also on offer might be new cup holders and other cubby holes.

      To offer comfortable seating position, the new Thar will feature new seats for both front and rear occupants. The exterior changes would be very minimal. It is expected to get new wheel arches, new tail lamps, and new body graphics. The company is also likely to get a hard-top variant. It will continue to be made available with two engine options- 105bhp, 2.5-litre CRDe and 63bhp, 2.5-litre Di.
