A pioneer of electric vehicles in India, Mahindra Reva Electric Pvt. Ltd., has been awarded the ‘Platinum’ Rating from the IGBC. Indian Green Building Council was an initiative taken by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with an aim to make the construction industry more environmentally friendly. The council is a non-profit organisation and consists of over 1,300 members.
Mahindra Reva has set a new record by becoming the first automobile manufacturing unit in the country to be honoured with an IGBC certification. The IGBC Green Factory rating system comprises a set of parameters designed for rating new and existing industrial buildings. The council awards credits for adhering to compulsory requirements such as site selection and planning, water, power and material conservation, indoor environment, occupational health, innovations and design process.
IGBC reviewed the manufacturing site of Mahindra Reva and found the unit in adherence to its environmental parameters. Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “Mahindra Reva is all about creating the future of mobility solutions for sustainable living. With our new clean and green manufacturing facility at Mahindra REVA, we are in the process of establishing new benchmarks within the automobile industry. The IGBC Platinum Certification will go a long way in inspiring and enhancing our vision for a cleaner tomorrow".

C Shekar Reddy, Chairman IGBC-Hyderabad Chapter & President, CREDAI Andhra Pradesh, has expressed his happiness over such an achievement and said, “This milestone has further consolidated India's leadership role in promoting green buildings. We are confident that that many more companies in India will go the 'Green' way".
Mahindra Reva, the only electric car in India, has been acclaimed as one of India's 'cool companies' in 2006 by Business World India. The Frost & Sullivan Automotive Powertrain Company of the Year award graced the car's kitty in 2006. Reva was crowned ‘Green Car of the Year” at the Overdrive & CNBC TV18 awards in 2010.
