Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a British subsidiary of India’s largest vehicle maker Tata Motors, is looking forward to establish an engine production facility in the Indian market very soon. The move will be taken in order to meet the rising demand of JLR vehicles in the Indian auto market. The company is, however, yet to reveal the investment details for this plant.

Speaking to the visiting Indian reporters on the sidelines of Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer Ralf Speth said, "The step two would be to go to India and then in India set up another facility with similar advanced technology in terms of inner equipment at the plant, and then deliver lower specification engines for the Indian market."

The company has indicated that its upcoming engine plant in the Indian market would be catering the needs of both JLR and Tata Motors, and won’t be supplying engines to other car makers. The company is currently taking on with the rivals like Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz in India.

According to Mr. Speth, the JLR brand grows the fastest in India. Proportionately firm is fastest, unfortunately, in absolute terms JLR started late with a very very low base and it will take time to catch up.
