Isuzu Motors has been a strong name in the international market. The brand has not been too well known in India due to its lack of production units in India. Interested buyers of globally popular D-Max pick-up truck receive the vehicle post being imported by the company in India. News has been doing rounds that Isuzu has been working on developing a seven seater premium MPV for the Indian market. The Isuzu MPV codenamed RU 30, is expected to compete with the locally strong selling MPV named Innova from Toyota.

The present line of Isuzu Motors in the Indian market features the MU-7 SUV and the D-Max pick-up truck. Isuzu has reportedly invested about Rs. 3000 crores in Sri City industrial park located in Andhra Pradesh which is about 60 kms from Chennai. Isuzu has been planning to get the plant functional by 2016. Initially the plant shall hold capability of about 50000 units a year which may be increased to about 1,20,000 units a year. Post launch of RU 30 MPV in India, it is believed that about 40,000 units shall be produced annually.

The Isuzu RU 30 is likely to be powered by 2.5-litre D-Max diesel engine that shall generate about 136 Ps of power. Further details on technical specifications is not known for now and may be known only post an official launch made by the company. Till the time plant is fully operational, Isuzu shall continue assembling MU-7 and D-Max at a contractual Hindustan Motors plant in Tamil Nadu. The company has also been working on developing a strong dealership base in the country that shall further aid in building confidence and trust among the local population.
