Tata Motors marked the pages of Indian automotive history when it recently launched its fully Indian car, Indica Vista in India. The new generation Indica is completely indigenously designed, engineered and built automobile. The car is completely what was promised by Tata Motors Chairman, Ratan Tata, and "the interior occupant space of an Ambassador with the external proportions of a Zen for the price of a Maruti 800."

The car made an impact immediately in the auto market and Maruti reacted by suddenly dropping its prices for its small car products. A move which did not happen even when Hyundai Santro was launched or Daewoo launched its Matiz.
The car is launched in seven variants and is priced at Rs. 3.49 lakh ex showroom Delhi for 1.2 Litre petrol variant up to Rs. 4.88 lakh for is highest model. Tata Motors President, Rajiv Dube promised that the company shall take the new model to international markets in next six months. He also confirmed that company shall not phase out its old Indica model, however, out of existing 12 variants, only 6 or 7 shall exist in the market. Tata Motors plans to invest Rs. 1700 crores in its various manufacturing facilities. It has also tied up with Fiat for its distribution and sales networks for selling Nano in the overseas market.
