EffectiveOctober 1, 2014, it will become mandatory for car makers to provide provisions to install Child Restraint System (CRS) in minimum one of the seating positions in cars. It is mandatory for cars, buses and aircrafts to provide provisions for installing CRS in US and many other European countries. CRS is a child safety seat with hard back that can be affixed on any compatible seats present in the vehicle. During crash, occupant sitting in rear seat continues moving at the same speed and gets thrown forward at the back of the front seat leading to injury. CRS is an important safety feature that prevents any injury to the child during any untoward incident like crash.

Normally cars come with a three-point seat-belts used by adults which are not fit for children, as their size and weight is less than a normal adult. CRS is exquisitely made for young children and infants who get effected during abrupt braking and swerving.

Auto makers will have to make required amendments to seats of their cars to adjust CRS with various weight options for kids weighing between 10kg to 36 kg. Auto makers will also have to provide buyers with the necessary guidelines to affix and use CRS along with the vehicles. However, car makers in India are now equipping their cars with vital safety features like anti-lock-braking system and airbags. With CRS enabled seats affixed in cars, it will become more safe for children and infants to travel in cars.
