We have been constantly informing you about Toyota's plans for the Indian auto industry. As reported earlier, the company will launch three new cars in 2016 including the new generation Fortuner and Innova, and the Vios saloon. If media reports are to be believed, the Japanese automaker will unveil the new generation Fortuner SUV in July in the Thailand market.
Based on a new ladder-frame platform that also underpins the new pickup truck Hilux, the new Fortuner features a new, more modern design and styling. The vehicle will get sharper nose, which is inspired from Lexus RX with heavily sculpted profile. According to reports, the Japanese automaker is trying to offer the same rugged, solid profile offered on the current model with additional sporty lines seen in the new breed of Toyota cars. With modern design, the company aims to position the new Fortuner as a more premium offering.
The exact engine specifications of the SUV are yet to be announced, but it is expected to get a new diesel engine along with petrol mills. Both automatic and manual gearbox options will be on offer. It is expected that the new generation Fortuner will be unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show, which is scheduled to commence in February. The company could also use the same platform to launch the new Innova MPV and Vios sedan. The Vios saloon will be positioned between the Etios sedan and the Corolla Altis.
