      Hyundai India marks 4.7 per cent sales growth in Calendar Year 2012

      Hyundai Motor India Limited, India's second largest car maker, has registered a growth of 4.7 per cent in its domestic sales with figures standing at 391276 units over 373709 units recorded last year. The cumulative sales during the year stood at 641281 units marking an increase of 4.1 per cent against 616140 units delivered in year-ago period. The exports of auto maker also reported a growth of 3.1 per cent with 250005 units shipped in December 2012 under the review of 242431 units delivered last year.

      Considering the sales of December 2012, India's largest car exporter sold 26697 units in the country against 29516 units delivered in year-ago period. The cumulative sales of HMIL were 47833 units during the month, over 49050 units sold in December 2011. Exports of the car maker also marked an increase with 21136 units shipped during the period against 19534 units delivered in corresponding tenure of 2011.

      Speaking on this sales performance, the VP- Sales & Marketing of HMIL, Rakesh Srivastava said, “In the year 2012, in difficult market conditions, we refreshed i20, launched Sonata and Elantra which resulted in strong volumes and consolidated our leadership position. The marketing initiatives in the rural market, corporate sales and focused efforts on exchange sales through Hyundai Advantage helped increase sales of petrol variants. This strong sales was led by Eon and i10. The increased production capacity of diesel vehicles with strong price value equations gave a higher than industry growth in diesel models. Overall we were able to improve on volumes while maintaining market share in passenger cars.”

      Segregating segment wise sales performance of the company, in December 2012, the auto maker sold 41069 units in A2 segment which comprises Eon, Santro, i10 and i20. In A3 segment, comprising Accent and Verna, the auto maker delivered 6270 units, while in A4 segment, Elantra, 428 units were sold. Hyundai Sonata, placed in A5 segment and Santa Fe SUV were able to find 20 and 46 new buyers during the month.
