      Hyundai Genesis 2015 will be integrated with Google Glass

      Korean auto giant Hyundai intends on integrating its upcoming sedan, the Genesis with the Google Glass technology. Barry Ratzlaff, executive director of Customer Connect and Service Business Development at Hyundai Motor America, said, “We see wearables as a technology trend, expanding from fitness and health monitoring to broader applications, Wearables are a great way to extend the experience outside of the vehicle by leveraging these small screens to quickly access remote features and deliver timely vehicle information”.

      The Google Glass technology is stated to help car users to get basic car updates via an application. As per sources, the technology would be funtional throught a headset and it is said that it maybe useful only as a pre-drive operation. Ratzlaff also said, “In 2013, we saw millions of commands sent to Hyundai vehicles from our Blue Link mobile application. As new screens emerge, we see a real opportunity to expand our app strategy to provide added convenience for our owners”. Sources from Verge stated that, Google Glass can automatically start a car, send addresses to its navigation system, find vehicle, and lock or unlock the doors. It is also said that the technology may update the driver when the service interval is due.

      Glass enabled technology was showcased by Hyundai in Las Vegas prior to the start of International CES technology trade show. Primarily the new technology has been integrated by Hyundai, with a sole aim to reduce the stress levels and enhance the overall driving experience. It is said that Google had unveiled technical specifications for Glass technology sometime in April 2013, to encourage software developers to create applications for these innovative spectacles.

      The first car to be blessed with Gogle Glass technology would be the 2015 due, the Genesis sedan. Sources from the company said, “The feature is an extension of Hyundai’s current Blue Link in-car system that provides diagnostic and maintenance services”. It is also said that the technology may help in taking photos, checking emails, playing music without requiring a laptop or a smart phone.

      As for exact technical details, it would only be released post the launch of Genesis in 2015. It is also unsure if the technology may be used in its other existing line of cars.
