The Indian subsidiaries of Japanese giants Toyota Motors and Honda, are eying at alternative destinations to source components as the recent massive flood in the Thai market has completely disrupted the supplies to their respective Indian facilities.

The waiting period for Toyota’s popular cars in India including multi utility vehicle Innova and luxury sports utility vehicle Fortuner has surged-up as the supply of critical component has been constrained form Thai plant. The company is now looking forward to divert the spare parts that are meant for its production plants in Indonesia and Philippines, so that supplies to Indian plant can be normalized. So far, the disrupted supply has caused production loss of over 800 vehicles to the company.

In a recent statement, Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, marketing at Toyota Kirloskar, said, "Toyota Motor Asia Pacific has given India the top-most priority. It is helping us by sourcing and diverting components, meant for Indonesia and Japan, here to sustain our good growth. Through this arrangement we will have spare parts supply till the end of the month."

Honda on the other hand, suffered a production loss of 60 to 70 percent due to this massive flood in Thailand. The company is now eying to source components alternatively from its facilities in Japan and China. The supply shortage has affected production of company’s flagship sedan – Honda City – badly, forcing the car maker to shut down the production of this car temporarily.
