The performance of Toyota in the field of hybrid cars has been impressive to say the least. Toyota Motor Corporation has reached the magic figure of seven million units’ sales in the first nine months of the current calendar year and still going strong. The manufacturer at present sells 27 hybrid models and plug-in hybrid in over 90 nations across the globe. The United States of America contributed to approximately 70 per cent of the sales figures, thus becoming the biggest market for hybrid varieties.

Bob Carter, the senior vice president of automotive operations, when asked to comment about the success, said, “Hitting the 7 million mark represents our customers’ recognition of the benefits of Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles. The appeal of excellent fuel economy, driving dynamics and the quality of our vehicles combined with our dealers’ dedication to customer service makes Toyota the undeniable leader in hybrid technology.”

The best part of hybrid vehicles is the fact that they pollute the air to a lesser extent, thus making the environment a better place to live. According to the statistical data, hybrid models have contributed to nearly 49 million tons lower CO2 than it would have been in case of standard vehicles, till date. Approximately, the amount of gasoline saved is also huge, amounting to 4758 gallons, which would have been used up by normal fuel-fed vehicles of same dimensions and performance. This has inspired the Japanese manufacturer to increase its line-up of products in the hybrid sector. On the other hand, the company will also look forward to increase its global reach in respect of number of countries, where these hybrid vehicles are marketed. It has been reported that the company will introduce nearly 15 new hybrid models globally by 2015. The hybrid vehicles, which have been launched in the running year, are Lexus NX 300h, and the Lexus Voxy and the hybrid Noah, which were launched in Japan only. Lexus RC 300h is reported to be up for production this month.
