Porsche is expected to recall 22,000 diesel Cayennes in Europe since they have been found using a cheat software.
The German authorities will be withdrawing the certification for these vehicles (an estimated 7,000 of these ply in Germany). And have also added that since the 3.0-litre TDI V6 diesel engine is still available in the diesel Cayenne, they are suspending the registration of new cars till the software is updated. Porsche is expected to bear all costs incurred.
Sources expect Porsche to quickly sort out the issues to win back their consumer’s confidence since the Cayenne is a critical product in the Porsche portfolio. In a similar act, German auto giants Audi and Daimler issued a recall last week to fix a huge number of diesel vehicles in Europe. Furthermore, sources have also reportedallegations against BMW, Daimlerand VW in conspiring to flout the emissions rules over a long period of time.
The German transport authorities have now shifted their focus to the VW Touareg, and if they find a defeat device in that car too, it will also face similar consequences. We will keep you posted on the developments, so stay tuned.
