In a bid to get rid of large inventories at their dealerships, the leading Indian auto makers are offering high discount and incentives to the buyers. Car makers including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Honda are offering even better discounts on cars than they offered in the month of December 2010.

The automakers had anticipated a 2 percent rise in the excise duty in this year’s Budget, and to escape increased post-Budget price they increased dispatches to dealers last month. Even after registering record sales of 1.89 lakh cars in February, most of the dealers have still not managed to clear large inventories. Thus dealers are now offering huge discounts to clear this stock.

While the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki is offering a heavy discount of up to Rs 40,000 on a range of its cars, Hyundai India is offering even higher discounts up to Rs 45,000. On the other hand, Honda  India is offering a heavy discount of even Rs 55,000 to car buyers. These discounts are even better then the discounts offered in December, which has traditionally been the month of highest discounts.

Maruti has almost doubled the amount of discount it was offering in the month of December 2010. The company is now offering up to Rs 30,000 discount on Alto K10 and Rs 35,000 on WagonR and A Star. On the other hand, the Maruti SX4 is getting the highest discount of Rs 40,000.
