      Car Makers Start Announcing Price Hikes from April 01

      Auto makers have been preparing since long for the new emission norms coming into effect from April 01, 2010. It is now also the time that they start announcing price hikes on their various models. All Chevrolet models except the Beat and the Spark gets pricier by at least Rs. 6000 from next month. "We were compelled to increase prices after the Budget following a hike in excise duty rates. This will be the second price hike by the company after the Budget," said General Motors' Vice-President (Corporate Communications), P Balendran.

      Hyundai cars will also get expensive by Rs. 5000 from April 01 as it gets ready to adopt new emission norms on all its models in India. "We will increase the prices in the first week of April in the range of Rs 4,000-5,000," Hyundai Motor's Regional Sales Manager, Kumar Priyesh.

      Tata Motors' President, (Passenger Car Business Unit), Rajiv Dube refused to comment on the specific increase on Tata models but he also confirmed that the company was definitely considering hiking the prices from next month. Mahindra and Mahindra also confirmed that price hike is definite but exact prices will be revealed only from April 01.
