Bajaj Auto will soon emerge as the first domestic auto company to introduce India-made two wheelers on the US roads. Reportedly, the auto maker will produce the street bikes for KTM AG, its Austrian partner, which has been only selling the off road bikes in US till now. Industry experts believe that the KTM Duke 390 will be produced by the Bajaj at its Chakan plant, near Pune.
US happens to be the biggest market for high end super bikes in the world. But, the current financial crises have forced the buyers to now opt for efficient and affordable models. Interestingly, before the launch of KTM 390 in US, the model will sparkle at the Indian roads. Reportedly, only the concept of this model was developed in Austria, rest everything was done by the Bajaj in India.
Witnessing immense success owing to the small bikes being produced in the Indian market, KTM surpassed BMW in 2012 and emerged as the largest bike manufacturer in Europe. During the period, the Austrian auto maker delivered 107,000 units in the region, whereas BMW managed to sell 106,000 new bikes.
The future plans of the auto maker state that it will boost the production from India, and will look for expansion in new markets of Latin America and Asian region. Interestingly, Bajaj has maintained a strong network in few Asian markets
Bajaj has a strong network of its own, while in others, whereas in other regions, it seeks help from its partner Kawasaki. It must be noted that the second biggest auto maker of the country has also maintained a strong infrastructure unit in Latin America.
