Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) launched the all-new Sonata that has been developed on its popular Fluidic platform. This car, which is the sixth edition of the Sonata, has the look of being in constant motion due to the Fluidic platform, which has also rendered it with unmatched interiors and innovative architecture. The car has been displayed at the Sonata Zone at Hyundai's stall at the Expo, where ribbon gymnasts will perform to entertain visitors.

Talking at the launch event, H. W. Park, MD and CEO of HMIL, said, “The premium Sonata and Hexa Space further establish Hyundai as a pioneer in innovation and design. Both the vehicles will raise the bar and set new benchmarks in India’s fast growing automobile market. The Indian customer deserves the best in the world, Hyundai is committed to bringing the best to India. A testimony of this commitment is the GDI engine that comes to India in the Sonata, it is present in the Hexa Space and the Veloster as well.”

The new car has been assimilated with a powerful 2.4 L GDI petrol engine that outperforms any in-line engine available in its own segment at present. With this engine, the car can successfully deliver 200 hp power at 6300 rpm and maximum torque of 250 Nm at 4250 rpm. This engine has been complemented by an efficient 6 speed manual and automatic transmission mechanism for smooth gearshifts. The dual VTVT technology used in the car ensures optimum performance, high mileage and minimal emissions.

The South Korean manufacturer has included features like front and rear seat ventilation, high intensity Xenon headlamps, cruise control and paddle shift. The company has equipped the new Sonata with 10-way adjustable power seat with lumbar support and 4-way power adjustable front co-driver seat. The hi-visibility supervision cluster and X-shaped centre fascia of the car enhance the driving experience. New Sonata gets a sporty look due to the ergonomically located central console, which has a glossy finish.

The 2012 Sonata also comes with various features for ensuring passenger protection, such as 6 airbags and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Other safety attributes are included in the car are Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), rearview camera and smart key with push button start. Hyundai India is hopeful that this car, also referred to i45, will help it consolidate its position in the premium sedan segment of the Indian auto sector.
