The German luxury auto maker, Audi continues its impressive sales performance in the Indian automotive market. The company sold around 667 cars in the first month of the year, January 2012, as compared to 480 in January 2011. This increased number marks impressive sales growth of 39 percent. Audi sold around 5511 vehicles between January and December last year. In comparison to 3003 units sold in 2010, the sales volume of 2011 marked a strong 84 percent growth. Moreover, for this year, the company is targeting overall growth of 45 percent.

Speaking happily about the remarkable growth rate, Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India said “2011 was an exceptional year in the history of Audi India. Further, we are pleased to announce that Audi has continued this successful performance in January 2012. Despite the current market condition, we aim to sell 8000 cars in India in 2012 and with the new year beginning on a strong note, we are confident of achieving this target. We attribute this growth to a strong brand pull we have in the Indian market. Our focus this year will continue to be on expansion of our dealership network and introduction of an exciting product line, including the new Audi TT and the Audi Q3 later this year.”

The major roles in the success story of Audi India were played by the highly acclaimed Audi A8 L, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi RS5 and the super sportscar Audi R8 Spyder, launched last year. The models, which have already been bestowed with several awards, made 2011 the strongest year for the company with respect to sales in the domestic market. The company is still the undisputed leader in the luxury SUV segment, which is ruled by Q7 and Q5. Moreover, the company is looking forward to reinforcing its dominance in the segment with Audi Q3 that will be launched later this year. Besides this, there are various other models lined up for launch in 2012. The launch calendar includes Audi TT (first quarter of 2012), followed by Audi Q3 (first half of 2012) and sporty Audi S6 making their foray into the market.

About its increasing domestic and global popularity, Michael Perschke commented that “Besides impressing the Awards jury, Audi in India has also attracted a wide spectrum of people. With over 450,000 fans, Audi India has the maximum number of fans on its Facebook page- highest amongst all luxury car manufacturers. This is also the world’s second largest fan community on Facebook within the Audi world.”

Audi AG recorded global sales of around 1,302,650 vehicles last year and consolidated its position in markets worldwide. With sales of 313,036 cars in China, the country emerged as its biggest single market for the first time. While in Europe, Ingolstadt-based brand recorded 12.1 percent sales growth by selling around 726,300 vehicles. Along with double digit growth rate in United States, the company set new sales record in over 50 markets worldwide.

The luxury car brand has plans of investing over €13 billion between 2012 and 2016, to further strengthen its position. The investment would be made mainly in new products, human resources and improvement of production capacities. Presently, the company is focusing on expansion of its site in Győr (Hungary) and also on commencement of manufacturing process in Foshan (China) in late 2013. Moreover, the brand with the four rings aims to include 42 models in its portfolio by 2015.

The company’s current portfolio boasts of impressive vehicles, inducing Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8 L, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi RS5 Coupé, super sportscar Audi R8 and Audi R8 Spyder. The appealing range of cars is available across different Indian cities, namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai West, Pune and Surat.

The auto maker will reinforce its reach in the country by covering more markets, including Nagpur, Coimbatore and Lucknow. Moreover, it will strengthen its foothold in Mumbai and Delhi. Audi will soon make announcement regarding the dealerships in these areas.
