Honda has recalled approximately 46,000 Odyssey minivans in the USA due faulty rear doors that can fall without any prior warning. This has already happened twice, wherein the power lift doors of the vehicles fell on people. Reportedly, this issue has affected only the models made in 2008 and 2009.

According to the information posted on the website of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the lift gates are mounted on struts and gas can get leaked from these struts. The website also said that the chances of injuries are also amplified as the doors can be close automatically.

This problem has already resulted in two minor incidents, which is why the manufacturer has said that it will change the power liftgate struts free of cost. It will dispatch letters to the affected Odyssey owners in March 2012 to give details of the recall process. Meanwhile, the owners themselves can call the Japanese manufacturer at 1-800-999-1009 in case of any queries.

Earlier, Honda had recalled 421 Odyssey models in 2009 due to assimilation of faulty front brake hoses. In 2005 also, Honda had been asked by NHTSA to recall 22,000 to rectify problems with liftgates, though the manufacturer had said that the issue did not pose any safety concern.
