Suzuki Motor Corporation, the Japan-based parent firm of India's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki, has declared that its Swift premium compact has reached the 3 million mark in the cumulative sales recorded in the global auto markets. The figures are incredible as the premium hatch Swift went on sale just eight years and two months back worldwide. Suzuki Motor Corp., the Japanese multinational auto major, launched its Swift model in November 2004 on home turf. Later the company started assembly operations in India, China and Hungary as well. Maruti Suzuki introduced its Swift model to domestic car enthusiasts in the year 2005 and the sporty hatch was assembled locally for the Indian auto market.

As per reports, the Indian auto sector has contributed to a major fraction of the total 3 million sales- about 45 per cent or around 1.35 million units. Further, the Japan auto market accounts for about 13 per cent of the overall Swift sales recorded across the globe. Of the 3 million sales, around 23 per cent sales of Swift were reported from European countries.

Suzuki Motor Corp. also started production and distribution operations of its Swift carline in Thailand in the year 2012. At present, the Swift premium hatch is offered in over 120 international auto markets and continues to be a best selling Suzuki model in many of them. Along its way to the 3 million sales milestone, the Swift has been showered with numerous 'Car of the Year' awards in many countries.

At present, Maruti Suzuki India offers its Swift premium hatch in the price range between Rs. 4.5 lakhs and Rs. 6.7 lakhs in the domestic passenger car market. Interestingly, the company has recorded average sales of around 17,000 Swift units in India during the third quarter (Q3) of ongoing 2012-13 fiscal.
