Ahead of its official public unveiling later this year, the upcoming 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS has been spotted testing at Nurburgring. Reports indicate that the SUV might get design elements similar to the new GLW which is also due for launch later this year. The powertrain options are likely to be borrowed from the S-Class, including the autonomous technology.

The S-Class has six-cylinder and eight-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine options, along with six-cylinder turbo-diesel and an electric plug-in hybrid option. It is believed that the top-of-the-line variant will be the GLS 63 AMG which will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 powerplant which will generate 620bhp.

As seen in test images, the new GLS is expected to get a boxier rear section. However, this might also be due to the cladding in the development car. The vehicle is also expected to be offered with dual-display setup for the instrument cluster and media display with 12.3-inch screens, MBUX infotainment system with augmented reality technology and natural speech recognition.

Additional details about the vehicle will be known in the days to come.
