Why Should You Check And Top-Up Engine Oil?

The significance of oil to an engine equals that of blood to a human body, the later fails in absence of former under  both cases.  Oil is a lubricant that protects, cleanses, and keeps engine from any kind of wear and tear. It is a catalyst that transfers excessive heat from engine to outer sections, thus maintains a subtle working temperature on inner levels. Therefore, it is important to keep a check on level of oil in old as well as new cars.

Oil check and top up is actually a very simple process that includes following steps:

  • Step 1 – Park your vehicle at a safe and leveled place. Make sure there is a gap of 5-10 minutes between killing the engine and lifting the bonnet.

  • Step 2 – As you lift the bonnet, look for the dipstick and check the level of oil on it before cleaning it with a clean cloth.

  • Step 3 - You can easily make out the volume of oil in engine by introducing the clean dipstick back in tube and pulling it out. If the oil mark falls between upper and lower level, you are good to go. In case, it fails to reach even the lower mark, it’s high time and needful should be done immediately.

  • Step 4 – For topping up oil in car, remove the oil filler cap. Pour a portion of engine oil and wait till it drains down and reaches the innermost parts of power mill. To avoid overfilling, you may keep a check on oil level by repeating step 3 again and again.
