The roads of Nagpur witnessed a scandalous accident, wherein two youngsters assaulted an 87 year old doctor (Dr Fazal Shaikh) because the old age man was honking the horn of his car following their bike. The incident occurred on 14th April 2012 at Mahdibagh railway crossing in Yashodhara Nagar.
Dr Shaikh was critically injured after being indulged in quarrel, as his head was hit by a massive stone that crashed through his car’s windshield. The youth arrested in this mishap were Ravi Thakur (20) and his friend Dattu Mandavgane (23), who threw the stone at Shaikh. Both of these accused were residents of Vinoba Bhave Nagar.
As per the statements released by Police officials, Shaikh departed from his home in Mahdibagh Colony residence at around 11 am and was approaching towards to his clinic at Quetta Colony. On the way, he witnessed a traffic jam near the railway crossing and thus, decided to take a right turn, which head towards other route.
The bikers were on his way and therefore Shaikh blew horn of his car. Shaikh reported that he honked twice but the bikers did not move aside. Police officials said, “When Shaikh blew the horn again, the youths got down from their bike and started abusing him.”
In his statement, Shaikh told police that he even attempted to console both the boys by agreeing that he will not turn or honk again, but they started quarrelling with him. Shaikh reported in his statement, “For no fault of mine and such a petty issue, they thrashed me and even tried pulling me out of the car to hit me. But I somehow saved myself. I locked the car's door and windows immediately.”
Following with anger, both the youngsters started throwing stones at the car, which completely spoilt the front shield. Thereafter, they pelted a big stone at the car that went through the front windshield and directly hit Shaikh on his head. Witnessing the attack, the people at railway crossing intervened in the situation and stopped the youngsters. Shaikh was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. On the other hand, people also informed Yashodhara Nagar police about the whole situation.
In order to cure injuries, Shaikh has few stitches close to his head. However, individuals at that area did not allow both the guys to escape till the police arrived. After reporting a statement through Shaikh and the bystanders, the police officials of Yashodhara Nagar arrested both the youths. Since the injuries of Shaikh were serious, the police registered the case as attempt to murder against the youths. The sources of police said that both the youngsters belong to a political party.
