There has been quite some speculation about the R125 bike from Yamaha in India. There was an April fool’s prank on a popular website about the motorcycle being launched in India, which showed a huge response from the crowd. This has made the company to think about actually launching the bike in the country. As a result, Yamaha has imported one unit of the Yamaha R125 to the sub-continent for Research and Development purpose. However, the company will not yet launch the bike in India, as the market does not support a sporty bike of 125 cc displacement in India.

There are a couple of reasons why the market is suitable for a 125 cc sports bike. The main and the most important factor is the price of this bike, which is quite high. It is more expensive than R15 even, which will somewhat reduce the acceptability of the bike. It is expected that the import value of the model is 2.77 lakhs INR. In fact, at this price range, Indian customers hope to buy a R25 by next year. The main reason why R125 has been imported to India from France is probably to inspire the R15 Version 3.0.

The R125 from Yamaha runs on a 124.7 cc engine, which has a liquid cooled cylinder. It churns out a power of 15 PS with a torque output of 12.4 Nm. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, the mill is not something that will give you an adrenaline rush. However, the motorcycle is quite popular in Europe. On the contrary, this bike would have fared quite well in India had it been a little less priced.
