The Indian arm of Volkswagen, the well appreciated German automobile manufacturer, is going to establish its new world class Regional parts Distribution Centre (RDC) and performed the ground breaking ceremony at its site on November 22, 2012. The modern and state-of-the-art RDC is being set up at Bhiwandi in Thane, Maharashtra and its construction is expected to be finished by the first quarter (Q1) of 2014.

The German auto maker's new RDC is going to be Volkswagen Group's second depot on Indian turf. The company's first distribution facility has been set up in Gurgaon, Haryana. In a press statement given by Volkswagen India, its upcoming RDC is developed under its 'depot network development project'.

The ground breaking ceremony was started with the auspicious bhoomi-poojan in presence of Gerry Dorizas, Managing Director (MD), India Sales, Volkswagen Group Sales India (VGSPL) Pvt. Ltd. and Dietmar Hildebrandt, Director, Group Service, VGSPL.

Expressing his views on the new RDC, Gerry Dorizas said, “The group has decided to strengthen the current after sales services by forming the RDC in Bhiwandi and further strengthen the relationship that we share with the domestic customers.”

The upcoming Regional parts Distribution Centre at Bhiwandi, Thane will service the eastern, western and southern Indian regions that contribute between 60 and 65 per cent of genuine component sales for Volkswagen in Indian auto market. According to Volkswagen Groups Sales India, the storage and distribution facility's strategic location can cut the current lead time in transporting genuine auto parts and components to the company's service centres and authorised dealerships.

The German auto maker's Bhiwandi based upcoming RDC is spread over 21,000 square metres of area and will be installed with modern and cutting-edge warehousing software called the ET2000, which has been exclusively designed for operation in India. Reportedly, the facility could deliver auto components and spares within 24 hours and 72 hours to the company's dealers based in western region and southern regions, respectively. Further, the German auto firm recently shifted its headquarters to Mumbai, the state capital of Maharashtra.
