      Scooters are on the rise in India and form a significant contribution to the market share of popular two-wheeler companies. Be it due to the rising number of female riders, or on the inclination of the male and elderly riders towards light-weight sleek scooters, this segment has shown immense popularity in the last couple of years. As a result, the manufacturing fraternity has started focussing more into this segment to see tap the immense scope in this category. Two of the most famous models, which came out after a string of independent surveys, were the TVS Jupiter and the Yamaha Ray Z. These models have similar specifications and are pitted against each other and both of them have received wide reception from the riders of the modern generation.

      TVS Jupiter, apart from its chic looks, has a 109.7 cc 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a primary CVT and secondary gearbox transmission. The maximum power output from this machine is 5.88 kW at the rate of 7500 rpm. On the other hand, the maximum torque rom the scooter is 8 Nm, but at a lower 5500 rpm. The suspension type on the front is of advance telescopic suspension type, which makes sure the rider is comfortable even on the bumpy roads. For the pillion rider’s comfort, the rear has a unit swing with spring loaded hydraulic andgas filled suspension. Drum brakes have been installed both on the front as well as at the rear wheel so that the rider is able to control the bike in the busy urban city roads. The mileage of this bike is tagged at approximately 62 kilometres per litre under ideal circumstances and it may slightly vary accordingly. The fuel tank capacity is a modest 5 litres, which is quite common in this segment and the kerb weight of this model is 108 kilograms. The TVS Jupiter comes in four attractive colours with fancy nomenclature – Midnight Black, Volcano Grey, Titanium Red and Pristine White.

      Yamaha, the renowned two-wheeler manufacturer has introduced the Ray Z to tap the promising scooter market in India. This scooter is powered by a 113 cc dual valve, four-stroke mill, which is capable to churn out a maximum of 7 bhp at the rate of 7500 rpm. The maximum torque that can be produced by the machine is of 8.1 Nm at a modest 5500 rpm. Telescopic suspension on the front and nit swing suspension at the rear takes care of the riders and prevents from unnecessary jerks and bumps on uneven roads. The 130 mm drum brakes have been installed on both the rear and front wheel, which is the standard benchmark in this category. The steel wheels are an exception in the Yamaha Ray Z, which in TVS Jupiter are of the alloy type. With a top speed of 85 kilometres per hour, this scooter is definitely made for the Generation Y.The model comes in three attractive colours – white, red and black.
