Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indo-Japan joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation and Kirloskar Motor, has reported a surge in the sales quantum by 7 percent in the month of July this year. In the month of July 2011, the company had sold 13,592 units as compared to the increased sales of 14,574 units in corresponding month this year.
Toyota has revealed in a statement that the ramp up of sales volume has resulted from the increased demand for utility vehicles as the car sales had declined during July owing to the sluggish market demand.
Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director (Marketing), TKM, was quoted as saying, "We have registered a growth this month based on the strength of Innova and Fortuner sales. The Innova and Fortuner sales continue to grow with the increase in production. There has been a drop in sales of the Etios series, as we exported 1,488 units to South Africa."
The sales registered by Toyota Etios range showcased a decline of 9.35 percent, falling from 6,646 units sold in July last year to 6,024 units sold in July this year. To catapult the sales of the Etios Liva hatchback, the company has introduced a new version with nomenclature, 'Liva TRD Sportivo' in petrol and diesel powertrains.
In the utility vehicle segment, the compact MPV, Toyota Innova witnessed a sales growth of an impressive 39 percent. The sales rose from 4,816 units in July last year to 6,678 units sold in July 2012. The sturdy SUV, Toyota Fortuner scored a jump in sales by 24 percent with sales totalling at 1,316 units as compared to the sale of 1,060 units in July 2011.
