A report by Royal Automobile Association (RAA) of South Australia states that scooter sales in the region has witnessed a growth of about 110% in comparison to last three years, with about 40% of users in the age group of 60 years or more. For a while now RAA has been using service, also known as 'Gophers' on trial basis and now plans to use it on a permanent basis in regional and well as metropolitan areas.

Speaking more on the occasion, a spokesperson said, “100 people took part in the pilot program and during that time there were 54 road services undertaken for mobility scooters, or roughly one every two days. Out of 100 people, that's quite a few jobs. In many cases, the RAA patrol actually attended the member's home to help them out, after they found their scooter had a flat tyre or wouldn't start just prior to taking a trip. If the member is located on the roadside when their mobility scooter breaks down though, our patrols will do all they can to get it going again. If it's not possible, they'll make arrangements to get the member and their scooter home or to a place of repair.”
