Skoda has informed journalists that the brand is looking to build an all-electric sports car that could debut by the year 2025.

It has also been confirmed that this electric supercar will be among the five EVs that are slated to hit the market by then. Skoda added that their supercar will be underpinned by the MEB electrical architecture as it is incredibly flexible in terms of dynamics and power displacement. In April, Skoda showed off their Vision E concept car which gets two electric motors (one on either axle), has four-wheel drive and is capable of making a total of 302bhp. Claimed to hit 100kmph in just six seconds from standstill, the car can do a top speed of 180kmph and run 499km on a single charge.

What’s even better is that the flexibility of the MEB platform also gives them the option to equip this electric super car with an only rear-wheel drive, if the need arises, by having only one motor at the rear axle. Of course, this will bring down the range and power output, but with so much space liberated by the absence of other mechanical components, it gives Skoda an opportunity to explore other options. Skoda will undoubtedly be looking at volumes with the range of upcoming EVs, but the electric supercar is expected to induce some excitement into the brands future line-up.
