It’s the biggest car that Skoda has ever made and will now come to India on 4 October. It is their new SUV and will be their competitor for the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. We have already looked at how the Kodiaq fares up against the Fortuner and now here is how it takes on the Endeavour.

      Kodiaq Vs Endeavour

      Exterior
Two different vehicles and two different approaches to the whole SUV game is how this looks like, on the face of things. The Endeavour is big, boxy and with a major presence, thanks to its massive size.  There is a lot of bling, big LED head lamps, big chrome grille and a design that shows traditional SUV lines as well Ford’s SUV heritage.
For the Skoda Kodiaq, it’s all about softer lines as well as an under-the-radar presence thanks to the way the Czech automaker’s latest design language. The Kodiaq is 200mm shorter than the Endeavour but that has not made it any smaller in terms of presence. Noticeable bits on the car include the moustache grille and the low crossover stance.
Where the Endeavour scores high on the in-your-face factor, the Kodiaq is a much nicer looking car and one can clearly spot the higher level of detailing that has gone into the exterior design.

      Interior
These are big D+ segment SUVs and so, we know that both have climate control, touchscreen infotainment with navigation, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and of course, three rows of seats for seven people. Both have similar layouts in terms of where the items are placed and offer similar levels of practicality in terms of useable spaces across all three rows. However, the Endeavour, by virtue of being a bigger vehicle, does have more space in the second and third row.

      Engine
The Kodiaq is offered with one 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 150bhp/340Nm and gets a seven-speed DSG. We expect only the top spec variant will get AWD as standard.
In the case of the Endeavour, you can have it with a 2.2-litre diesel or a more powerful 3.2-litre diesel.  The 2.2-litre mill is available with a six-speed AT and produces 158bhp/385Nm. The 3.2’s output is 197bhp/470Nm and here too a six-speed AT is the only transmission option. Only the 3.2-litre unit gets AWD and from our experience during the CarWale off-road 2016, we can tell you that AWD system in the American SUV is pretty comprehensive and capable.

      Conclusion
The Skoda Kodiaq ticks off all the right check boxes but has a relatively lengthy path to complete to get to where the Endeavour is. The Ford Endeavour is priced in the range of Rs 25 lakhs to Rs 31 lakhs. We believe that the Kodiaq will be priced in the range of Rs 24 lakhs to Rs 30 lakhs.
