      Skoda exhibits Octavia G-TEC saloon at 2014 Geneva Motor Show

      Skoda showcased CNG powered Octavia G-TEC saloon at the on-going Geneva Motor Show 2014. Octavia G-TEC will be proffered in combi-estate and sedan semblance. Under the hood, a 1.4 litre TSI turbocharged gasoline motor can be seen with a reduced power output of 110 Bhp. Engines powering CNG and petrol variants promise enhanced fuel efficiency owing to features like Start-Stop System and regenerative braking. The engine complies with the Euro6 emission standards that will be implemented from September 2014. European market will get Octavia G-TEC first, production for the same will start from May onwards. After Citigo, Octavia is the second car from Skoda’s stable that will be offered in CNG version.

      In India, Skoda re-launched Octavia in October 2013, in seven variants including petrol and diesel trims. The saloon was phased out in 2010, however it has been introduced in the domestic market yet again featuring various changes. Octavia is getting tremendous response in India by garnering good sales every month. It will be interesting to see whether Skoda will contemplate to bring CNG version of the premium saloon in India.

      The India bound Octavia currently on sale is conceived on Volkswagen’s MQB platform and possesses enhanced dimensions. It is now 90mm longer and 45mm wider than its predecessor. A 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre TSI petrol engines are offered in the petrol variants. Diesel version is equipped with a 2.0 litre TDi motor. A base 1.8 Ambition model was also added to the new Octavia line-up after few days of the launch.
