Salim Khan, the father of Sohail Khan, expressed his disappointment with media because of an unfortunate accident occurred in Bandra, Mumbai that brought Sohail into limelight. On July 1, 2012, Sohail Khan's Land Cruiser driven by his driver, Dhananjay Pimpale crushed a 70-year-old destitute, Chandan Bala at around 11 pm near St. Andrew's Church. Salim Khan said, “It was an extremely unfortunate accident. It is not true that Sohail was in the car. He was at home. The driver, though scared, chose not to run away, he later surrendered himself at the police station. The woman who died, was destitute and lived in front of the church. People would give her food or money. My wife Salma has even given her money many times. It was an accident and I don't understand why the media is raising speculation. They need to be fair and objective in their jobs. Recently, three young boys aged between 17-20, died at Juhu beach, why isn't the media focusing on them today? Unka koi zikr nahi hai.... Why are they highlighting this story so much? Just because it's Sohail's driver. Actually, the car belongs to Arbaaz; it's registered in his name. But we aren't hiding anything. In our house, we use each other's cars and drivers.”

He further expressed his frustration with media for blowing such cases out of proportions wherein celebrities are involved. Salim feels that they should learn to treat everyone equally and reports are to be formed in accordance to the Indian legislations. Media's job is to report the incident and not to pass judgements, he said. Khan continued and said that he never commented even in case of his other son, Salman Khan, since he ensue full faith in law. The Khan family, however, will not pay any compensation to the deceased’s family as they had already disowned Chandan Bala.

Sohail Khan said that he was shocked after hearing the news about the unfortunate incident. He further stated that at the time of mishap, he was at home and had no inkling with what was happening. Sohail further added that the media has hyped this news a lot and rather it should focus on the fact that a person has died in the accident, than who was in the car.

Sharing his views on the accident, Sohail Khan's brother and Bollywood star, Salman Khan said that the accident happened by mistake. He further added that his family members spoke to the driver, who spotted something lying on road at the time of driving, which resembled to a black polythene bag. Later it was found that the black polythene was instead the victim, who was dressed in black. The Bollywood star further said that no one should sleep on roads as it could prove fatal.
