The 2018 Nissan Leaf will make its global debut on 6 September in Tokyo. This second generation electric hatchback will get a partially autonomous driving technology called Propilot.
Nissan has also released a teaser of the Leaf, previewing the V-motion grille. While the teaser doesn’t divulge anything crucial, previous spy shots have shown a design language heavily inspired by the new Micra. It gets a sharp styling with a stooped nose and narrow daytime running lights.
At the heart of the Leaf is a new electric drivetrain and battery that is rumoured to have more than twice the range of the current Leaf, of up to 550 kilometres. This should make the Leaf the most practical EV on sale in terms of range.
While the Leaf will be globally unveiled on 6 September, the Indian audience will have to wait until the 2018 Auto Expo. With the introduction of GST, the government is dropping the tax rate for electric vehicles to 12 per cent to encourage sustainable means of mobility. Which means that we can expect the Leaf to get a lucrative price for a CBU.
