Nissan Motor India has begun exporting Sunny, its mid-size sedan, to West Asia just four short months after its debut. The company is using the Ennore Port, located approximately 25 km from Chennai, for exporting the vehicle. It is produced at the company's Oragadam manufacturing unit located in the vicinity of Chennai.
The first export-bound lot of the Sunny, consisting of 3452 units, was shipped by the Japanese manufacturer on 1st February 2012 on a vessel named Cosmos Ace. According to sources, the company is planning to leverage the rise in export volumes to sell cars worth a total of $ 100 million in foreign markets.
Nissan India is aiming to export Sunny in markets where it already sells Micra, its hatchback. However, this move is currently in the planning stages and will come into play only after a considerable amount of time. According to an official, “We have started with the Middle East, next will be Iran and some of the African countries and then to Europe.”
As of now, Nissan India's export volumes from its Oragadam plant amount to a total of 85000 units. In January 2012, the manufacturer had sold 14403 vehicles in foreign markets, the highest ever monthly export figure achieved by it. Sunny sedan has enjoyed tremendous popularity in the domestic market ever since its petrol variant was launched in India in September 2011, followed by the diesel model in December 2011.
