Skoda Auto India could not generate numbers with its premium hatchback model Fabia in India. Now the company is planning to be more aggressive in the Indian market by launching more competitively priced models that offer better value for money. It has announced that it will launch a new small car model by early 2012 which will be priced between Rs. 3-5 lakh. It is widely speculated that the upcoming model may be christened as Skoda Joyster.
"We had announced to roll out one new model every year. As part of this strategy, we will enter the volume segment and will launch a small car in early 2012," SkodaAuto India Board Member and Director (Sales and Marketing) Thomas Kuehl said.
He also stated further that the company has not decided about the production plans whether the car will be rolled out from its Aurangabad facility or it will set up a new facility. Aurangabad plant currently has a capacity to roll out 44,000 units annually.
Skoda is currently gearing up to launch its latest SUV model Yeti in the Indian market.
