Having launched the Elantra in an all-new form, Hyundai is now working on a comprehensively updated Sonata. Dubbed 2018 Sonata, this new model was recently caught on test and is expected to hit the showrooms in the US sometime next year.
One of the highlights of the 2018 model will be the addition of an 8-speed automatic gearbox to mainstream variants. The 8-speed unit is likely to give substantial improvements to performance and efficiency.
The previous upgrade for the Sonata received an underwhelming response and as a result, the car eventually lagged behind its rivals in the mid-size sedan segment. With this 2018 model, however, Hyundai is looking to give the Sonata a thorough refresh next year in order to spark new interest among buyers. The car isn’t expected to come to the Indian market anytime soon.
