      New Ford GT gets futuristic digital instrument display

      In efforts to further enhance the driving experience and reduce driver distraction, Ford engineers and designers have developed a state-of-the-art 10-inch digital instrument display that features text and race-inspired graphics. The display sits neatly on the car’s dashboard and has been strategically positioned to present information quickly and easily to the driver.

      The automaker claims that digital display is capable of reconfiguring itself based on 5 unique drive modes - from Normal to Track, thereby helping driver getting most relevant information for their situation in easy-to-read format. The new model gets a sea change as compared to compared to original GT which comes hardwired with fixed set of analog gauges, buttons and knobs. Speaking about the new technology, Jamal Hameedi, chief engineer, Ford Performance, said, “Driver focus and attention are key with such high performance. We’ve designed the GT with a sleek digital instrument display that changes depending on driving mode in ways that are important and usable to the driver.”

      Engineers and designers at Ford have worked with Pektron (for electronic design, development, implementation and manufacture) and Conjure (for graphical design) to create animated renderings. Using steering wheel-mounted controls, the five drive modes can be easily accessed without loosing focus on the road.
