The new model is being jointly developed by Austria’s auto manufacturer KTM "The product...will first be launched in Europe and then in India, sometime during the next financial year," S. Sridhar, chief executive officer of Bajaj Auto's two-wheeler unit. The bike, to be assembled at the company's plant in western Indian city of Pune, will be marketed under the KTM brand and would be priced at more than 1 lakh rupees, Sridhar said.

Bajaj intends to be seen as a serious investor in KTM, with the commencement of launches of low-capacity but high performance bikes next year. Talking about the Bajaj KTM project, Mr Sridhar said the bikes, which would have a minimum price of Rs one lakh, would be launched in 2011-12 after Europe.

Bajaj is looking at 50% growth as its last year average sales were 2.09 lakh per month. It aims to sell around 3 lakh units every month from May 2010 onwards. It sold 2.85 lakh units in April 2010 which is quite a positive note for the company.
