A new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol is being offered with the facelift of the European spec Skoda Rapid. It is their smallest engine on offer and joins such type of engines from VW, Ford and Renault.
The engine is available in two states of tune- 93bhp and 108bhp but there is no word on the gearbox options available with this engine. The company has said that with features like an aluminium crankcase and intercooler and turbocharger integrated into the intake manifold, this is a lighter and quite a bit more efficient engine. This engine is Euro6 compliant and all models have been fitted with energy recovery system and start-stop technology.
This is quite an advanced engine and is unlikely to be brought to India unless Skoda plans to offer ‘hot’ version of the Rapid or maybe even the Fabia when it is brought back. This would most likely be branded with an S badge and be offered with the 1.0-litre in the 108bhp output.
