      Mumbai Traffic cops organize 'Ride for Safety' rally on 21st December, 2014

      Safe riding has been a priority for Traffic Cops in the city. To promote their noble cause the Traffic Police department has organized the ‘Ride for Safety’ rally on Sunday, December 21st. The ride shall begin from MMRDA grounds at Bandra-Kurla Complex and then proceed through Kalanagar to Nariman Point via Mahim and then Prabhadevi to Peddar Road. The rally end back on the same MMRDA ground at Bandra-Kurla Complex where it began and the riders will return via the same route.

      The ‘Ride for Safety’ rally shall be inaugurated by popular Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan in the presence of Rakesh Maria, Mumbai police commissioner, at the MMRDA grounds. Speaking more on errant rider menace, Dr Prataprao Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police, traffic, suburbs, said, “Our continuous efforts have proved helpful in curbing criminal cases too. We noticed that several chain snatchers use bikes to get away after the crime. The crackdown has helped reduce such cases. We will continue this campaign and start another specialized drive against over-speeding and drink driving on December 21.” Until now, the police managed to catch 2,967 errant bikers and about 627 FIRs have been registered so far.

      Speaking on riders riding without a helmet, the police said that they have managed to penalize about 2,51,784 bikers for riding without helmets as compared to last year’s 2,36,207. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, the Police has managed to penalize about 3,053 bikers during the same period.
