Mercedes-Benz has expanded the GLA range in India by launching the 220d 4MATIC Activity Edition at Rs 38.51 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). It is a four-wheel drive enabled version of the German automaker’s entry-level crossover and is priced Rs 3.4 lakh over the GLA200 CDI sport.
Dubbed the Activity Edition, it gets special decals, chrome garnish and 18-inch alloy wheels. In terms of features, this car comes with a new 8 inch media display, keyless start, rain sensing wipers and a 12V socket in the boot. This is the fifth addition to the GLA lineup and the sixth SUV option that the German automaker has for the Indian market.
Firstly, this model is powered by the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine found in the other GLA models but it has now been tuned to produce 168bhp/350Nm with power going to all four wheels via a seven-speed DCT and Mercedes’ 4MATIC AWD system.
Commenting on the launch of the GLA 220d, Roland Folger, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said, "We have today launched an all-new GLA 220 d 4MATIC ‘Activity Edition’, thus introducing the much awaited 4MATIC four-wheel drivetrain in the GLA, for the first time in the Indian market. The addition of the GLA 220 d 4MATIC Activity Edition further bolsters Mercedes-Benz’s versatile and comprehensive SUV portfolio. The launch of the GLA 220 d 4MATIC ‘Activity Edition’ is Mercedes-Benz India’s 6th SUV launch and the 9th product for 2016.”
